We all know brushing is a crucial part of good dental care, but BRUSHING alone is not enough to ensure proper oral hygiene. “To make sure that you have strong, clean teeth and gums, along with using a good toothbrush, toothpaste and mouthwash, you need a good dental floss and regular visit to your dentist too.” says Dr. Ranjitha Mukund, Green Meadow Dental at 3579 B Berlin Turnpike, Newington, CT 06111.
1. Flossing is as important as brushing your teeth
Although brushing removes majority of plaque and food debris, it cannot reach the tight spaces between the teeth. Therefore flossing at least once a day can help in removing these food particles and lessen the chance of plaque formation. If plaque is allowed to build up, it can lead to tooth decay and gum diseases. Hence daily flossing is highly recommended.
2. Regular check-up from your dentist
Although you follow a good routine oral practice, sometimes due to neglect and bad eating habits, you have chances of developing plaque. If left untreated, these plaques calcify (harden) into tartar, which cannot be removed at home merely with a toothbrush. Therefore you need a regular dental check-up and professional cleaning at least once in every six months.
Your dentist will carefully clean away all residual traces of plaque and tartar, especially between your teeth and gum line. Your dentist will also thoroughly inspect your mouth, teeth, and any other signs of early tooth decay or infection.
Dr. Ranjitha Mukund at Green Meadow Dental therefore highly recommends that you should have a regular check-up at least once in six months to keep your teeth and gums healthy.
